Common questions
Where is my data stored?
Only on your iPhone or iPad, inside the app. It's encrypted by iOS while the device is locked and isn't saved to iCloud or device backups. We never receive it.
How do I back up, or move to a new device?
Open Settings & privacy > Make an encrypted backup. Choose a passphrase and save the file somewhere safe, such as Files or a USB drive. On the new device, install Kinbook, then Settings & privacy > Restore from a backup, and enter the same passphrase.
I forgot my backup passphrase.
We can't recover it, because the backup is encrypted with it and we never see it. Make a new backup from the device that still has your records.
I lost my phone. Can you restore my records?
Only from a backup file you saved. Because nothing is stored with us, we can't restore records ourselves.
Reminders aren't arriving.
In Kinbook, turn on Settings & privacy > Reminders. Then check the iOS Settings app > Notifications > Kinbook. Open Kinbook at least once every few days so it can schedule the week ahead.
How does the pill count work?
Edit a medication and turn on Count pills left. Each dose you check off takes pills off the count, and undoing a dose puts them back. When about a week's supply is left, Kinbook shows a "Running low" card and can add a task to pick up the prescription. Swipe right on a medication to add a refill.
Can I turn off Face ID?
Yes: Settings & privacy > App lock. We recommend keeping it on, because the app holds health information.
How do I delete everything?
Settings & privacy > Delete all data, or delete the app. Backup files you saved elsewhere need deleting separately.
Can Kinbook tell me if a dose is safe?
No. Kinbook is a record-keeping tool. It doesn't give medical advice, calculate doses or check interactions. Ask a doctor or pharmacist, and in an emergency call 911 or your local emergency number.
